You know, I would say to our politicians, stop being distracted & stop using this to criticise others - the feedback you get via social media is largely because access to written, radio & TV media is blocked for all bar Parties in power as was conclusively proven during recent EU election - I was even sent a contract by national broadcaster saying why I would not be appearing on TV - so if you don't want constant criticism, then do your job properly
Well four of blockers to solving housing for homeless, migrants and refugees are planning laws, accommodation owners wanting up to three times the going rate per room and landowners refusing to release land for development and of course locals holding developers to ransom until big compensation is paid (e.g. euro 70k per householder near M50 development and maybe its an Irish thing but will I ever forget the nightmare of Shell being held to ransom for an additional $6bn gas "development" costs. We thought we would never escape that nightmare. Someone said to me a few years back, Ireland is as corrupt as Argentina, they were wrong.....One suggestion might be for the Government to online bid accommodation for the above groups with bidders welcome from worldwide. You can't negotiate one hotel at a time without a credible stalking horse. Such a situation is ripe for exploitation as we have so often seen. The Govt/Civil Service do not appear terribly commercially astute or its just perhaps they don't have to or don't wish to be.
Once again Govt are onto rhetoric about the threat of Russia with respect to Ukraine in particular. But Ukraine is not in the EU. I think it is high time the Govt. explain to us exactly what we have to gain with all this aid to Ukraine. Is their position representative of the Irish people. Of course not. So what on earth are they up to. If the aid and refugees is in return for gas or other commodity then tell us.
Congrats to Viktor Orban for standing up to the EU in not opening his boarders to a free-for-all influx - he is a quick learner. What on earth are our Govt up to. The answer should be NO, NO MORE until you the EU fund and develop secondary roads, more schools, hospitals and housing. Our Govt just seems utterly incapable of making a decision. Its simple, options are x, y, z, cost of options is a,b,c, risks of options are l,m,n, ROI/IRR/NPV of options are euro 1,5,10 million. Answer is option 3. One of options has to be the Viktor approach, Take the fine, for a limited time, at least we find out how to close our borders & prevent further exacerbation of homelessness not to mention getting a message to traffickers and associates (goodness knows who that might be??) that Ireland is CLOSED, we are not Europe's dumping ground
We need to get on top of this situation quickly on this site to monitor performance and the first step will be to report out, the committees to which our new MEPS are ascribed. Then we look at attendance, no. of questions/suggestions delivered and the associated quality of input and response. More soonest Team
